Our Treatment Program
The Center for Joint Therapy offers a comprehensive program for pain relief from OA of the knee. Joint Fluid Therapy is extremely effective, but it's not a "magic bullet." And it's not a permanent alternative to surgery. Joint Fluid Therapy works best with physical therapy and healthier lifestyle choices.
Here's what we recommend for most patients:
Joint Fluid Therapy: If you've tried more conservative options, and they haven't worked for you, and you're a good candidate, we will provide Joint Fluid Therapy. Patients receive injections once a week for 5 weeks.
Weight Loss: If you need to lose weight, we strongly recommend that this be part of your long-term treatment plan. For every pound of weight you lose, you take four pounds of pressure off your knee.
Physical Therapy: Research has shown that patients who undergo strength training have improved quadriceps strength, knee function and significantly less pain. Patients attend physical therapy for only 30 minutes twice a week for 4 weeks.
Proper Shoes: You wouldn't put bald tires on a new car. That's why we recommend you wear comfortable, supportive shoes to reduce stress on your knees. No flip flops or high heels.
Devices: We may recommend braces or orthotic insoles to reduce pressure and stress on your knees.
